The Atlanta Kookaburras were very pleased to award long time player, coach and club legend Brent Bacon a Life Membership Award at the recent Baton Rouge away game. Brent first played for the Kookaburras in 2002 and has played 60 games and kicked 85 goals, leading Goalkicker for the Kookas, has also been Head Coach, Asst Coach & Captain as well as strategic club leader during different times for past 15 years. Brent was also an important component in bringing and organizing the very successful 2004 USAFL National Championships in Cumming GA, north of Atlanta.
After moving from Chicago having also being a great part of the Chicago Swans there, Brent wasted no time in making the Atlanta Kookaburras successful as well. Brent currently is just concluding two years again as Head Coach, stepping up after a request and like a true Kookaburra came out of a mini playing retirement to take the field in Baton Rouge the other week as the team was short on numbers. This sort of selfless act is what long time members and now new members of the Atlanta Kookaburras have seen and will always admire.
Brent was also named Club Captain earlier this year of the 20 Year Kookaburras Team of Champions at the Clubs 20 year anniversary celebrations.
From everyone here at the Atlanta Kookaburras past and present congratulations Brent "Pig" Bacon on becoming just the 6th Life Member of the Atlanta Kookaburras.
The Kookaburras look to compete for hardware at 2017 USAFL Nationals in San Diego, CA. As a team of working professionals and students, we fund trips like this via our own money, generous sponsorships, and friends like you!
As the only Australian Rules Football club in the state of Georgia and one of only a handful in the South, the Kookaburras have been spreading our love for the game of footy and Australian culture throughout the region for 20 years. You can read more about USA Footy on the National website www.usafl.com
We head to the 2017 USAFL Nationals in San Diego, CA this October, and while we expect every player to fund the bulk of his trip to the tournament, every dollar raised will help lower that cost and ensure that every member of the club who wants to represent the Kookas will be able to attend.
We have been working hard on and off the field this year to improve our game, and we will make you proud in San Diego and intend to bring home some hardware!
We have enlisted the assistance of Crowd Fund App Fundly. Click on the image to be taken to our donation page.

The Atlanta Kookaburras are at a midway point of their 2017 season with a 2-3 game record. With the Atlanta summer upon us the Kooka's continue to train once a week on Saturday mornings and look forward to some summer local games and of course Summer Social Events. The first of those social events is next Saturday June 24th where we join the party of Atlanta United fans and other supporters for a tailgating extravagnaza and everyone is invited.
In April the Kookaburras took 6 new players for their first game to Nashville in Music City and went down to a more experienced team on the day. Was great to see debuts from, Maggio, Karena, Franchini, Johnson, Wright, Depue and the return of Townley to the Kooka's fold. Our first home game was also a loss unfortunately to Nth Carolina, where each team went goal for goal all through the game until NC pulled away in the last quarter to sink the Kookas first game win of the year. Debuts of Olsen and Drick, the latter who was just walking past the field on the day and decided he wanted to play, were impressive. Old timer Kraska also chipped in for 5 goals.
The Kookaburras first win came a month later in May to the Baton Rough Tigers. Great opponents as always the Kooka's were able to pull away however in the second half for a comfortable 40 point win, with Townley showing his class on one leg kicking 6 goals for the game. Well umpired too by our own Kooka's Life Member Jim Batten.
In June we ventured again to Nashville where they hosted Tampa as well for a three way tourney. The Kookaburras were able to beat a stacked Tampa team full of Nashville alumni back for their 20 year anniversary celebrations, with Aman Mullee on debut for the Kooka's but where unable to hold off the Nashville team in the second game of a very hot day. Wayne Kraska playing his 150th game for the Atlanta Kookaburras had to settle for a disappointing defeat.
